Anyone perform a Carb Swap on the 5.7l 260hp? I have a 1986 model and it looks like a Rochester Quadrajet. Very sensitive at high RPMs. I am considering swapping for the Edelbrock 1409 Marine Quad. Anyone have any opinions or experience with this idea?

I haven't tried the Edelbrock but I have a Holley Marine Carb in my small block motor in my CM23 but is no longer a 260, its now a 383 Stroker motor. My carb came from a shop in Southern Cal, Sean Murphy Induction. https://www.smicarburetor.com/products/sfID1/14/sfID2/5 It is about 10 years old and had one rebuild. It works well.

Is that Holley a 600 cfm? I am not looking o spend too much to stroke the motor up. Just want consistent fuel delivery. It sputters under load at 4000 rpm and a few seconds after dropping the hammer. With my 21p prop I can still get to 40mph and with my 17p I can get to 32mph. All plenty fast for this Grandpa :)

That is a 600 cfm carb. It sounds like the Rochester just needs a rebuild.

On a side note, my wife and I just moved to Louisiana fro the Sacramento area....Elk Grove to be more specific. We boated the Delta the entire 10 years we lived there. We kept our boats at Oxbow Marina in Isleton. First a Sea Ray 340 Sundancer and then a Taiwanese 52' Motor Yacht. I retired last year and economics and family drove the move. I still have a son in Roseville who is an 18 year veteran of Sac. County Sheriff.

Awesome! I have a Client that is Scott Jones the Sheriff's Secretary. My Buddy just retired from Sac Sheriff at 49! My wife's not to found of the Sacramento River and we spend most of our time in lakes. However, I am considering a camping getaway to Ko-Ket Resort with my trailer and then hauling the Cobalt for some Delta Fun to change her opinion. I hear it is much nicer down through Isleton.

what doesn't she like about it? I never really boated in the Sacramento area much and we were never much for trailering. That changed a bit with this boat though.

The central part of the Delta is really nice. There are a few waterside eating and drinking establishments that are pretty nice more down near Willow Bend marina. I hope I don't offend you but for me Ko-Ket was just OK. I never thought it that special. Some of the other marinas down the river towards Isleton and beyond are actually much nicer. Here is a link to Oxbow's website. http://oxbowmarina.com/ They have some camping and even a few RV sites. There really is a lot to explore in the Delta and we really enjoyed it even takin a couple of trips to San Francisco.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't been to any of the Marinas south of Clarksburg. I will check out your old stomping grounds :)

I personally like the Quadrajet. I was looking at a new Edelbrock. But decided to get a new Quadrajet. Have the old carburetor replaced in 10 minutes. Ran like a top right out of the box
